Advantages of Cotton
Cotton pillows are filled with 100% cotton. As a result, they often have a high firmness level, yet are capable of being somewhat soft. They hold their shape and loft / height reasonable well, resulting in at least average support throughout the night.
Because of their good firmness and reasonable loft / height, they are suited for back and side sleepers.
Cotton offers decent breathability and absorbency to help regulate a person's sleeping temperature. Cotton pillows are completely free of allergens, synthetics and chemicals. And they are easy to care for since they can be machine washed. They tend to be affordable
Cotton Pros
Cotton pillows are completely natural, free from synthetic materials, and are hypoallergenic. Cotton stays cool against the skin, unlike polyester, since cotton fibers breathe better than synthetics. Washing a cotton pillow is simply a matter of throwing it in the washing machine and following the care instructions on the tag, which may vary by brand. Organic cotton offers an option if you're sensitive to chemicals that may be in synthetic pillows.
Cotton Cons
Cotton pillows start out fluffy, but over time, flatten out a bit and become somewhat hard. They are not as puffy or plush as down or polyester pillows. Because of this, they may feel unusual at first, if you're used to a pillow filled with down or polyester. Cotton holds a lot of moisture, so when washing the pillow, it takes much longer to dry than polyester. Washing and drying may also change the shape or feel of the pillow a bit.
