Natural soy wax is made from the soybean, a very versatile product farmed in many places around the world. Once harvested, the bean is cleaned, cracked, hulled and rolled into flakes.
The oil is then extracted and undergoes a process called “hydrogenation”, which changes the chemical composition of the oil. Fatty acids are changed form saturated to unsaturated, which alters it’s melting point and creates a solid product at room temperature.
Pure soy based candles hold a variety of great benefits if compared to candles made from paraffin wax or blended waxes (soy/paraffin mixes).
Whilst some products contain limited amounts of chemicals, others may contain additives or may have been blended with paraffin wax (made from petroleum).
Soy wax is a fully biodegradable and renewable source, which supports farmers and therewith is good for the environment and the economy.
Paraffin based candles are basically made from petroleum. It is a by-product created from refining crude oil into gasoline. It contains toxins and produces larger quantities of soot, which may be released into the air. Paraffin candle are also not biodegradabl.
You can see how the burn of such candles and its resulting byproducts would affect our environment, our homes and our health.
Pure soy wax candles are completely natural, they don’t contain any toxins and have a much lower release of soot, if any.
