Benefits of Phlebotomy Equipment

The basic capacity of a phlebotomy technician is to draw blood. Most of us have been with a phlebotomist once, or multiple times in our lives. What you may not know is that the job doesn’t stop there. In this capacity, they also submit samples to laboratories and document patient information. The phlebotomy training is widespread and while it adheres to strict regulations and guidelines, it is some of the best training on offer in this field.

Of course, the job also entails a number of other responsibilities and duties. They are also tasked with cleaning and sterilizing tools and equipment and disposing of contaminated supplies. Phlebotomists can work in a variety of places, including clinics, hospitals, doctor’s offices, and other facilities.

A phlebotomist is not a nurse or a doctor and does not need to spend four or five years in training to learn how to cure diseases or prepare patients for surgery. Since their job is quite specialized and routine, there is a bare minimum of classes needed to get certification and state licensing. Since you do not need a bachelor’s degree, the cost is fairly minimal. About 80 classroom/externship hours are required, which can be done in 4 weeks. You will receive all the tools needed to pass your certification exam. After you have passed, American Harbor College sends all of the necessary paperwork to the State of California so that you can get licensed!

A number of professionals in the healthcare industry have used their experience as a phlebotomy technician to springboard their career further in the medical field. Since phlebotomist technicians can work in a variety of healthcare environments, they are exposed to many potential career options. For those looking to advance their careers, going back to school for additional certifications or even a college degree is not uncommon. At American Harbor College we have witnessed our graduates use their phlebotomy technician license as a springboard into Medical Billing, LVN, RN and even Doctorate programs! The possibilities are endless and we encourage our students to continue investing in their education upon completion of their phlebotomist certification.
